Surf Coffee Yerevan: History, Tumanyan Location & What to Know:
If youre walking around central Yerevan and you want a funky, hip and cool cafe to chill at, you’ll probably stop at Surf Cafe
Surf Coffee Yerevan is one of my locals, and a cool cafe which is always busy, its popular for repats or those not from Armenia as it opens at 8:00am
BUT.. there is more to this cafe

“Surf” isnt about the ocean, its about the LIFESTYLE : travel, music, freedom, coffee and meeting new people! – it combines international coffee concept with Armenian touches
So, I asked the question, WHERE DID SURF COFFEE COME FROM?… and started investigating a bit (down side of being so curious… lol) they actually have 300 spots all over the world!
LOCATION
Located at the historic intersection of Tumanyan and Nalbandyan, right in the heart of central Yerevan! Its where the city’s business and cultural areas, hotels and tourist attractions merge
It is convenient if you’re exploring central Yerevan because you’re close to:
- Yerevan Opera House
- Swan Lake
- Northern Avenue
- Abovyan Street
- Republic Square
- the central restaurant and café district

So this isn’t a café that requires a special journey across the city
You can easily incorporate it into a day of sightseeing
The company itself was founded in 2010 in Obninsk, Russia by a group of young people who loved coffee and were passionate about surfing – and Yerevan was the first international cafe for Surf the brand in 2019

The Tumanyan cafe takes the bottom floor of this historic old building

Caffeine: how does it work?
The main active ingredient in coffee is the alkaloid caffeine, the most used psychoactive substance. It occurs naturally in coffee, tea leaves, cocoa beans, mate leaves (Paraguayan holly), kola nut, and many other plants that produce caffeine to protect against insects. It is bitter and in high doses can cause disturbances in living organisms. But small concentrations are enough for insects, and moderate consumption is safe for humans

The cafe as you enter in from Tumanyan St – its usually very crowded!

An easy going place to be able to enjoy and work at – laptop friendly

Its not Just about coffee:
The VInyl Room – Surf describes it as an audiophile room, It feels like someones lounge room as you enter into this room on the side, its hip, cool and funky vibe with its relaxed colours – there is a vintage vinyl record player and for those who like relaxing, and a cool music vibe, this cafe is for you!

Their ordering area is at the back of the cafe

Yummmm! – their coffee is really good! They are known for their awesome brews

Unique photographs on the wall in the walls, mostly back and white, some surfing, some skating… interesting, cool pics

They have on display many european style pastries, all look amazing

3 Yerevan locations:
Surf Coffee × 404
1 Saryan Street
Surf Coffee × Tumanyan
13 Tumanyan Street
Surf Coffee × Cascade
1 Tamanyan Street, beside the Cascade.
I recommend Surf because of the coffee itself, which is great and the sizes of the drinks (I LIKE LARGE) so they have these options! I also like the outside sitting area which is chill and you get to people watch
