Northumberland
47mins from Heddon-on-the-wall

We drove to Warkworth castle and got there just at closing time! We were lucky to take photos of the inside and Elton cleverly got some postcards for us as well!
This castle was originally a wooden fortress after the Norman conquest in the 12th c. Until the 16th c. it was home to the Percy family (Earls of Northumberland) and it was during this time that the castle was rebuilt in sandstone and fortified greatly.
We stayed here for about 30mins taking photos and watching the people packing up the equipment. It’s a beautifully preserved castle.
