This is just a really quick guide on how to catch the metro from the international airport

I did a bit of research and I’m glad i did as there are a lot of different Metro ticket options you could get so it’s good to know before getting there which one suits your needs so when you get to the station you know how to use the metro ticket machine and quickly purchase what you need

This post is a one way airport ticket on the metro towards court centre to train station Barcelona sants

As you get out into the Arrivals hall, you turn right and start following the “M” metro signs
Metro signs to follow
Follow escalators downstairs as we heading underground
Ticket machines cant be missed – buy tickets from here – I only got the airport ticket which is a ticket for 1 transfer on the metro (as many changes to get to your destination)
Quick and easy to use
1. Choose english then click on Aeroport ticket
Choose how many tickets you want
Then you need to pay in either cash or card
I used cash, put in the top right side
Change given down below – ended up with heaps of coins!
Ticket is then dispensed
Enter the ticket into the gate of the metro – it gets validated / stamped and comes back out
This is route to get to Sants station
From airport T1 (and T2) you jump on the L9 orange line to Zona Universitaria and get off at COLLBLANC
More Escalators downstairs
And head over to the waiting area
Metro is nice and modern and clean – starts empty from the station but gets really full by the time I got off at Collblanc
Getting off at Collblanc there are around 5 sets of escalators to climb up to get to line L5 (blue) for the next section
Up and up and up
L5 towards “Vall De Hebron”
Nice modern trains, very similar to Londons Tube even the colours are the same
Waiting patiently
Make sure you heading in the right direction!
Collblanc showing all stops with easy to read signage and with english transations
On the exit to Sants Station you dont have to scan your ticket at the gate, you just walk through
And here it is! “Estacio Sants”
Barcelona sants from the main entrance

Total trip took around 35mins and cost €5.50 if you dont get the metro card and just purchase the aeroport ticket 1 way (does end up being more expensive this way)

Great experience, easy, cheap and efficient way to get to city centre
