Estacion Puerta de Atocha – GROUND LEVEL
36 min – DIRECT

The Avant trains are Media Distancia services covered by high-speed trains (up to 250 km/h or 155 mi/h) specifically designed for short journeys, as opposed to the trains used for the AVE service.

The walk from the hotel was around an easy 29mins

This city is so damn easy to walk!
Anywhere any time in Madrid it’s bustling… Atocha Starion from the front main Street
The last time I was here was in 2005 and I vividly remember the beautiful gardens inside the station so I had to go and revisit 🙂
The departure boards were HUGE here!

Found my train and it said I had to go to ground level for departures

Followed the easy to read signs and through the new area lined with shops and cafes to Puerta De Baja section on ground floor
Baggage control was deceivingly empty and I was early, tried to ask the lady if it’s too early for me to go inside with no luck she had no idea what I was on about lol
And sure enough… The whole place was full I could barely find a spot to stand – should have had a coffee outside!

The train numbers are announced 15mins before departure

My gate number 15 came up on the board
Every one ran for the line!
The train is Avant a fast speed intercity train

This is a really popular line as everyone goes to Toledo to check out Spains old capital – so much history there!

4 carriages so this train was a sinch to navigate and find coche #2 – and this was nicely labelled too
The carriage was very lush! So much room to move and modern
The seats were huge with a massive table and heaps of leg room to cross legs without any discomfort

Facing backwards again! I haven’t faced forward yet on any of my 6 trips lol

Left perfectly on the dot at 11:15!

Glad I got window seat and was able to enjoy the view for the 36 short minutes
Clean and large bathrooms
Connecting from train carriages

A really nice and comfortable train and trip to Toledo – this is something you could easily do as a day trip from Madrid (I’m staying there for 2 nights) but many ppl were doing that who were on the train I was one of the few with luggage

The inside of Toledo terminal! So arabesque!
Toledo train station ♥️

I would recommend 10mins extra to navigate Atocha station and find your gate – BUT don’t pass through the check in point too early as many ppl there
