Also named Estación del Norte (North Station) for a long time, because it was built with French resources by the Northern Railway Company, to be the terminal station for the railway connecting Madrid with the French border

Located North West of the city centre and only 30mins walk from the centre

Easy 25min walk to my hotel from the station

The main building of Principe Pio Train Station

The building is an example of Modernist architecture from end of the 19th c.

The main hall is the interesting area of this building with the glass ceiling and open atmosphere

Theres a shopping centre inside as well and many shops and restaurants

My train at end stop Principe Pio

The outside of the station from the train platform as we arrive – still has its old style and beautiful metal work

To exit the platform we needed to scan our ticket – first (and only) train station where we had to do this upon arrival which was interesting)

Principe Pio serves a few suburban lines, mainly the commuter rail traffic of RENFE, the state-owned railway company. It also serves as a Metro station for lines 6 and 10, as well as for the Ramal branch line of the Madrid Metro, a shuttle line between Príncipe Pío and the station at Ópera
